Youth Diversion and Early Intervention Services

SouthLight’s Youth Diversion and Early Intervention Program provides community-based substance use prevention and early intervention services for youth ages 12-25 and their families. The program creates opportunities to address concerns early—whether a young person is referred directly by their family or through the court system.

“Young people need support before a concern becomes a crisis..."

— Dr. Lesli Davis, LCSW, LCAS, CSI, NC Board Approved LCMHCA-Qualified Supervisor

Who Can Refer Youth to the Program?

Families, Community, and Court system partners can refer youth for services.

YOUTH EARLY INTERVENTION: Youth involved with the court system can be referred for services designed to provide an alternative to deeper system involvement.  Services balance accountability with developmentally appropriate intervention and support.

Families can refer a young person when they have concerns about substance use or related behaviors.  Youth do not need to have criminal legal system involvement to participate.  This pathway provides families with an opportunity to address concerns early and connect their young person with appropriate support.

Our Approach

We recognize that early substance use and related behaviors can signal needs that are best addressed before they escalate.  Our approach is youth centered, strengths based, and family engaged. We focus on understanding what is happening in a young person’s life, building skills and protective factors, and connecting families with the right level of support.

For youth referred through the court system, we pair this approach with meaningful accountability and opportunities for successful completion of requirements.
