SouthLight Hosts National Recovery Month Celebrations in Durham, Fayetteville and Raleigh

September 28, 2026

This September, SouthLight celebrated National Recovery Month across three communities, bringing together clients, staff, neighbors, community partners, and supporters in Durham, Fayetteville, and Raleigh.

More than 800 people joined us throughout the month to celebrate recovery, connect with resources and recognize the strength and progress of people on their recovery journeys.

SouthLight hosted a Recovery Month Celebration in Durham on September 10, the second annual SouthLight Fayetteville Block Party on September 17, and our annual Recovery Month Celebration at the Raleigh Hub on September 23.

Celebrating Recovery and Connecting People to Vital Resources

While each event reflected its local community, they shared an important purpose: celebrating recovery while connecting people with support and resources that can help them thrive.

Across the three events, 35+ community organizations and partners joined SouthLight to provide information, resources and essential supplies. Services and resources included healthcare, recovery housing information, transportation assistance, harm reduction supplies, clothing, toiletries, reentry resources, and more.

SouthLight employees were also on hand to connect clients with services and support, including Peer Support, Tailored Care Management, benefits assistance, and other resources.

At the Raleigh Hub, highlights included a hot dog lunch, free T-shirts with a recovery design, recovery housing resources, toiletries, the HeART of Recovery Art Tent, and more.

Durham, Fayetteville and Raleigh Unite Around Recovery

Expanding Recovery Month activities to three SouthLight locations allowed us to celebrate alongside the communities we serve in Wake, Durham, and Cumberland counties.

  • Durham: 112 people attended, with 12 community partners participating.
  • Fayetteville: 100 people attended, with 7 community partners participating.
  • Raleigh Hub: 450 people attended, with 20 community partners participating.

Together, these events reinforce an important message that guides our work throughout the year: recovery is possible, and no one needs to do it alone.

“Recovery Is About More Than Treatment”

“People need connection, support, and access to resources that help them move forward. These events bring all of that together, giving our clients an opportunity to celebrate how far they’ve come while connecting with people and resources that can support their continued recovery.”
— Tristan Wever, Social Determinants of Health Manager

Honoring the Sponsors, Partners and Volunteers Who Made Recovery Month Possible

These celebrations would not be possible without the generosity of the organizations and individuals who support SouthLight and the people we serve.

Thank you to our 2026 Recovery Month sponsors: Our Presenting Sponsor, Southern First Bank, and our Champion Sponsors, Accu Reference Medical Lab, AmeriHealth Caritas, Sir Speedy, Genoa Pharmacy and Opio.

Special thanks to community partners Ship Community Outreach, White Memorial Presbyterian Church, and Gay for Good for their generous contributions.

And thank you to the many SouthLight employees and volunteers who planned the celebrations, staffed tables, welcomed our partners, cooked and served lunch, and helped clients access resources.

Supporting Recovery Every Day, Not Just During Recovery Month

Recovery Month may happen every September, but supporting hope, healing, and recovery is at the heart of SouthLight’s work every day.
