SECU Foundation Awards $500,000 Grant for SouthLight Renovation

We are excited to announce that SouthLight Healthcare has received a $500,000 capital grant from the State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Foundation to support the renovation of our outpatient treatment center in southeast Raleigh. This project is vital to SouthLight’s mission of delivering life-saving care to individuals and families facing substance use and mental health challenges.

SouthLight’s Hub: Providing Daily Support for People in Recovery

Each day, SouthLight’s community “hub” serves over 600 individuals, providing critical treatment services that foster healing and recovery. The SECU Foundation’s generous support will allow SouthLight to increase access to care for an additional 1,500 individuals each year, while also providing 3,500 clients with access to an on-site pharmacy.

“We are incredibly grateful to SECU Foundation for their commitment to enhancing our facility and, by extension, the well-being of the communities we serve. This renovation is a crucial step in building a supportive community where people can find recovery and healing. The foundation’s contribution will make a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands of our neighbors.”

SouthLight’s  CEO Adam Hartzell

The newly renovated outpatient treatment center will reflect the high-quality care SouthLight provided for more than 50 years. The updated facility will help ensure that individuals seeking treatment for mental health and substance use disorders will receive compassionate, accessible care in a safe and welcoming environment.

SouthLight currently serves over 8,000 people annually across Cumberland, Durham, Harnett, Johnston, and Wake counties. The renovation of the outpatient treatment center will further SouthLight’s reach, addressing the critical need for accessible services, especially for underserved and uninsured populations.

“The Foundation’s grant to SouthLight Healthcare represents our commitment to improving the well-being of North Carolina communities and ensuring that everyone has access to the care they need. The renovation project to increase capacity and access to services highlights the importance of this treatment facility as a vital resource for individuals and families in need of mental health and substance use treatment services and support.”
